The Bank of the Cook Islands (BCI) has committed to continue as a platinum sponsor, handing over $15,000 annually, towards Te Maeva Nui for well over 10 years now.
BCI’s recently appointed chief executive officer, Jennifer Henry was pleased to sign the annual memorandum of understanding with Tauranga Vananga Ministry of Cultural Development this week.
Henry said she was happy to see the Bank’s ongoing assistance and sponsorship for the significant and respected culture festival.
Tauranga Vananga’s acting secretary Justina Nicholas said she was grateful to BCI for their long-standing contribution to culture and performing arts.
In the past BCI has also contributed to the visiting Pa Enua teams participating in the festival by donating parcels of food to their hostels.
Since the number of performing teams have reduced drastically, the food parcels will take a miss this year.
The theme for this year’s Te Maeva Nui is “Te Au Manu Puapinga a Toku Matakei’nanga/ Enua – The important animals and birds of my tribe/islands”.
Te Maeva Nui celebrations will open at Te Are Karioi (National Auditorium) on Monday, July 31 with the Imene Tuki and the Choir performances.
On Tuesday, August 1, the International Night will be held followed by Cultural Night on August 2 and 3. On Friday, August 4, the 58th Constitution Day will be celebrated with the awards and closing ceremony.
The BCI sponsored Trade Days will be held from August 1 to 3 at the Punanga Nui Market featuring crafts, live music, food stalls, fresh produce and more.
Tickets are on sale now – $20 reserve seating, $10 General terrace and $5 floor seating – in front of the BCI bank in town Monday to Friday from 9am-2pm or at the National Library, and on Saturdays at the Punanga Nui Market stage from 9am-12noon.
